WWE Superstar John Cena recently filmed a viral video at an in-store event for Cricket Wireless. The stunt was an opportunity for customers to meet the WWE superstar, and it also boosted social shares and brand awareness. In a new multiyear sponsorship deal, Cricket becomes the co-presenting sponsor of Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view on WWE Network.
The Great Khali
At seven-feet tall, The Great Khali was a sight to behold whenever he appeared on WWE television. Although he never won the World Heavyweight Championship, he was a legend in his own right and is considered one of the biggest foreign-born stars to ever grace the WWE roster. WWE Superstars The Miz, Sasha Banks, Kofi Kingston and Charlotte Flair will serve as brand ambassadors for cricket through original custom content and community activations.
He went to the United States to pursue professional wrestling, and though he was warned that training could be back-breaking, he had an unrelenting passion for it. He pushed himself hard, and even went to the extent of biting his trainer’s hands in order to get him to work harder. Khali fought giants like Mark Henry and Big Show, and he made them look ordinary in the ring. He also had a major health scare, and he fought through it to continue his career.
Harbhajan Singh
The Punjab-born spinner is one of the best bowlers of his era. He is known for his fiery temperament on the field and has been part of some of India’s sweetest victories in the last two decades. In the early 2000s, Harbhajan was the fulcrum of Sourav Ganguly’s Indian side. He was a pure matchwinner with the ball and got into the skin of many opposition players. He took 417 wickets in 103 Tests, 269 in 236 ODIs and 25 in 28 T20Is. He is the only bowler to have taken a hat-trick in a World Cup final. However, he has had some high-profile controversies on and off the pitch, including the infamous Sydney incident with Andrew Symonds and slapping Shanthakumaran Sreesanth.
Alberto Del Rio
Alberto Del Rio is an accomplished wrestler who has won championships all over the world. He also holds several unique signature moves that set him apart from other wrestlers. He has appeared in multiple WWE events, including WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble. At TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs, Del Rio turned face by saving his ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez from 3MB. He would later team with The Miz and Brooklyn Brawler to defeat 3MB.
Del Rio is a former two-time WWE Champion, and he has an impressive resume in other promotions as well. He was once regarded as one of the greatest names in wrestling. But the company never fully capitalized on his potential. This is a big part of why he left the company for good.
Amir Jordan
Amir Jordan made a huge impression on wwe viewers during his short run with NXT UK. He was able to develop a good story and become one of the more popular wrestlers in NXT UK before being let go on Thursday. During an appearance on Desert Island Graps (episode available on Sunday), Jordan revealed that NXT UK’s block taping schedule often left him out of the ring for weeks at a time.
Amir Jordan is returning to the ring this Sunday as part of a new multiyear sponsorship deal with Cricket Wireless. As part of the partnership, Cricket will air a 30-second custom spot during this year’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view and will serve as the presenting sponsor for WWE’s live Kickoff pre-shows before WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series and Royal Rumble. WWE talent including The Miz, Sasha Banks, Kofi Kingston and Charlotte Flair will also serve as brand ambassadors for Cricket Wireless through original custom content and community activations.
John Cena
John Cena is one of the biggest stars to ever grace the world of professional wrestling. The Cenation leader has racked up 17 championship reigns during his tenure in WWE, and is viewed as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
His earliest exploits included feuding with Chris Jericho and a match at Vengeance pay-per-view against Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit in which he won through a basic roll-up pin. He also competed in the Big Show title match at Wrestlemania XX where he wore a Patrick Ewing jersey to draw cheers from the audience before knocking out The Big Show with his trademark move FU. He is a great role model for kids and promotes positive messages like respect, loyalty, and hard work in his matches. He also does extensive charity work outside of the ring with Make-A-Wish.
Final Thought
The Great Khali was the first wrestler of Indian origin to feature in WWE. He paved the way for other Indian wrestlers to make it big in WWE. Dilsher Shanky and Rinku Singh Rajput are among the other young Indian talents to have signed for WWE. Guru Raaj is a high-flyer who performs in 205 Live and NXT.
