Looking for the best mattress for your bed type can be a difficult task. Not only do you need to think about comfort, but you also need to think about how often you’ll use it. After all, a mattress for your child, or a guest room, might not be the same as one for yourself. Don’t worry. Here are a few things to think about, when choosing the best mattress for yourself, your family, and your home. Also, if you’re interested in finding out what the most comfortable mattress is for you, check out our other article “What is the Most Comfortable Mattress”. You’ll find some useful tips when thinking about buying your next mattress.

Who The Mattress Is For?

Before thinking about what mattress to buy, you need to think about who the mattress is for. Are you looking for a mattress for yourself, or are you buying one for your guest room, or are you buying it for your elderly mother or father? It depends on who the mattress is for, what mattress you buy. The reason why is that a mattress for your elderly mother might not be the same as a mattress for yourself, or your child, or even a friend staying over at your house.

Think about it this way, an elderly person will have trouble lying down at all. So, you’ll need to buy a mattress that not only provides comfort, but support as well. Think about the aches and pains they’ll suffer from moving about. Getting them a soft mattress might make it difficult for them to get back up in the morning, so a firmer mattress will be better for them. On the other hand, your child might be a side sleeper, so you’ll need a softer mattress for them, instead of a firm one. So, before you start looking to buy a mattress, think about who you’re buying one for.

Which Mattress Is Best?

As we mentioned before, it depends on who will use the mattress, and what you will use the mattress for. Here are a few examples of the different uses of a mattress and which is the best mattress in a box.

Guest Bedrooms

When buying a mattress for a guest bedroom, remember that you’re not very likely to have a guest who’ll stick around for a very long time. For the most part, your guest will stay for a night or two, or at week at most. So, having a very heavy mattress for their bed isn’t necessary. Instead, the best mattresses for these rooms are either open spring or pocket spring mattresses. They’re much lighter than foam or even hybrid mattresses, since these rooms will be used occasionally. Because they won’t be used too often, the springs in these mattresses won’t be bent out of shape or worn down too often or too quickly. That’s why, open spring mattresses are best for these rooms.

Mobility Problems And The Elderly

The best mattresses for those with mobility problems, or the elderly, would be those that are made with memory foam, and especially those that are deep. These mattresses will make it easier for someone with mobility problems to stand or lie down, and if you’re able to, why not incorporate those automations that lift the bed, so they don’t have to exert too much effort when sitting up or lying down. Also, because these memory foam mattresses last a long time, you won’t have to worry about changing out their mattresses too often.

Back Pain

If you’re suffering from back pain, then you’ll need a firm memory foam mattress, or a hybrid mattress. They both offer support and mould to your body shape, as you sleep. So, instead of sinking into springs that may dig into your back, or curling up on yourself, because the mattress is too soft, the firm memory foam will still support and lift your body, to alleviate any pain you feel.

Side Sleepers

For those of you who sleep on your side, then your best mattress is a soft memory foam or hybrid mattress. This means that you’re able to sleep on your side, without losing circulation to the side you’re sleeping on. With firmer mattresses, it can be difficult to adjust your sleeping position, because your arm or leg is trapped between your body and the fabric. That’s why, softer mattresses are better for side sleepers.

Over-Heaters

Everyone has different body temperatures. Men are hotter than women, in terms of temperature, so they tend to overheat at night, especially if they’re covered in a thick duvet. So, the best way to counteract this is to find a mattress that uses breathable materials, such as latex mattresses and some memory foam mattresses. You’ll find that traditional spring mattresses use traditional materials, like lambswool, which can sometimes cause allergic reactions and overheating. So, if you tend to overheat at night, especially in the summer months, go for a modern memory foam mattress. With the technology they’ve borrowed from astronauts, memory foam mattresses are made with heat in mind. So, you’ll never have to throw those thick blankets off again.

Do The Research

When it comes to buying your mattress, remember do the research. Find out what your sleeping habits are, whether you experience any pain or not, and if you’re the one using the mattress or if someone else is. Once you have all that information under your belt, then you can start comparing prices, models, and makes, and you’ll be able to make the right choices for you and your family.

Also, if you’re using your mattress frequently, don’t forget to change them every few years. The average life expectancy of a mattress is around 6-8 years, so if your mattress is looking a little worn and tired, it’s time to start looking again! When you do, don’t forget to look at the reviews, and see just how good these mattresses are. It might just be that one of the budget-friendly options out there are better than those bespoke and pricey mattresses.
