Greenhouse gas carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere when fossil fuels such as gasoline and diesel are burned. Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide, and hydro fluorocarbons have been increasing in the atmosphere and are severely affecting the climate.

Climate change's repercussions and the current energy price problem, exacerbated by harsh weather, affect every continent. Specialist in decarbonization, energy, and transportation; Romain Pison is paving his path through the transport sector with a strong commitment to adopting workable climate adaptation-related measures in the face of such challenging circumstances.

Transportation's effect on climate change

The economy and society both depend on mobility. The inhabitants' quality of life and the earth's health depends on effective and accessible transportation infrastructure.

But this industry continues to pose one of our major environmental problems.

As stated by the Energy Information Agency, transportation causes 24% of the direct emissions of carbon dioxide by the combustion of fossil fuels, with road vehicles responsible for 75% of these emissions.

“Emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels cause transportation networks to contribute to declining air purity and a changing climate” says Romain Pison. Additionally, transportation has several direct and indirect consequences on ecosystems and adds to air and water pollution.

How to promote sustainable transportation

“The most crucial and urgent actions that need to be taken are to reduce the activity of transportation, increase its energy efficiency, and lessen its dependency on fossil fuels” says Romain Pison.

Promoting emission-free vehicles, whether battery electric or green hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, is crucial for the sustainability of transportation.

According to reports, green hydrogen will help transition from traditional fuel. Fuel cells, which generate energy through chemical reactions, can use this material as a green fuel source.

Although some transport modes already use this technology, much more research must be done before it can be regarded as a crucial component of environmentally friendly transportation on a global scale.

What are the most effective ways to lessen transportation's carbon footprint?

Water runoff affects ground- and water-level contamination because other roads are required to handle more cars. As a result, they are decreased when alternative forms of transportation are employed in place of cars. Bike lanes and routes will be more sustainable if fewer automobiles are on the road and more bicycles and other forms of active transportation.

Electric buses, trains, and BRT lines are examples of public transportation that can move passengers far more efficiently than autos. It's important to note that although electric automobiles have lower carbon footprints and emit less pollution, they do not reduce traffic.

“The most environmentally friendly modes of transportation are bicycles and walking, which should be no surprise. They are not only pleasurable and healthy for you, but they also produce zero carbon dioxide emissions at every level” says Romain Pison.
