Let’s start with the obvious: social gatherings are a way for a person to learn and develop their social skills. This is applicable whether or not the social gathering is in a university—across all countries, all ages, and all kinds of people, parties enhance interactions even at the very basic level.

How Important is it for Students to Socialize and Go to Parties at University?

The short answer to this is: very. Conversations and relationships formed during student parties and/or student organized events help students meet different walks of life, preparing them for the real world in the future. These also are an avenue for students to expand their friend group, which helps them a lot, especially freshmen.

Why Should We Hold Student Parties?

  • Encourages Empathy and Social Skills

First and foremost, student parties are a catalyst to a students’ ability to empathize with one another. All universities have students flocking from all over the world, and social gatherings are one way to connect them with one another.

What is “empathy?” It’s when you put yourself in another person’s shoes. At parties and school events, a few barriers and pressures go down (like classroom work, for example). Thus, these places are healthy spots to strike up conversation and go deep into people’s life experiences. If you’re more of an introvert and are unsure if you can do this, parties are also great avenues to practice your small talk skills. (Maybe even the only avenue to practice your small talk!)

  • Establishes Networks

Another main benefit of going to a university is that it sets not only your skills, but also your network, for life. Once you graduate, you’ll be surprised at how your friends at university can help you land your first or dream job. You’ll also be surprised at the number of opportunities that can come your way just by making solid friendships with people from different fields.

This isn’t to say you should use student parties as the sole leverage to a successful future—stepping on people for your personal gain is not the best way to go about your career. However, we are saying that the connections you make not only inspire you but give you a chance to be better in the future. You never know who you’ll meet next at a student party!

  • Reveals New Interests

On the topic of never knowing what can come your way in a student party, these events can also reveal sides of yourself you never expected. Meeting a person or a group of friends that introduces you to your passions is not an uncommon experience.

Imagine this: you’ve always been slightly interested in playing the guitar. At a student body party, you meet people with similar interests, and you find out that there’s more to instruments than the guitar; you’re enamored to explore drumming, bass, and even piano. It can only take one conversation with the right person, under correct circumstances to change the way you see the world.

Now, student events aren’t always meet-cute avenue. Still, parties that welcome different campus clubs do have a high chance of influencing your passions even by a tiny bit by the end of the night. If you want to learn more about yourself, student parties are the way to go.

  • Enrichens Life in School

Students are not the only ones benefiting from high quality social events—universities are [benefitting from them] too. Student events promote balanced school lives, which is a big consideration for incoming students in this day and age.

With more people valuing their mental health and social stability, a reputation of enlightening and fun events are a sure way to lure more students in. Teenagers and young adults have a lot on their plate when it comes to self-discovery, and a bit of support from their schools won’t hurt.

  • A Break from Day-to-Day Studies

University can be tiring and repetitive. It’s no secret. Planning and attending a social gathering like a student party is a great way to take a break from your day-to-day

studies. This can then relieve your stress levels, giving you more energy to finish your semester strong and fulfilled. Now, who wouldn’t want to do this?

In life, it’s important to have a balance between your social and school/professional life. If you take either one too seriously, then you might be in for a few stressful days.

Remember that rest is worth taking, especially for hard working university students such as yourself! Besides, all work with no play can actually diminish productivity.

  • It’s a lot of FUN!

Students and student councils get really creative when it comes to events. In relation to the topic above, student parties are a good way to take a break and have some fun—and not all parties are about drinking, mind you. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, people have found unique ways to have some wholesome fun (if that’s your thing).

Student parties can range from upbeat raves to challenging trivia nights; high-energy festivals to an intense horror movie watching party. There are many ways you can enjoy yourself in them, no matter your introversion and/or extroversion. Thus, don’t feel pressured to be something you’re not—there will definitely be a student party niche for you.

Did you identify with any of the points listed by us? Hopefully you did, because at the end of the day, student events are for the students more than anyone else. If you’re not satisfied with your campus events, try reaching out to your student body or Office of Student Affairs for help. It’ll be for everyone’s own good at the end of the day. Happy students make for a successful university, after all.
